Borough Council Adopts New Beach Regulations

The Borough Council adopted Ordinance 2017-11 at a public meeting held on April 19th.  The ordinance amends Chapter 33 of the Borough Code, entitled “Beaches. ” A copy of the ordinance is available here:  Beach Regulations.   Responding to complaints received from guests using the boardwalk and beach, Borough Council adopted the ordinance modifying beach operating hours; regulating the use of tents and food storage devices on the beach; limiting the size of coolers; prohibiting e-cigarettes; and prohibiting feeding seagulls, dogs, cats and foxes.  However, Borough Council will introduce amendments at the next Council meeting scheduled for May 3rd that will address some of the comments received from numerous persons and organizations. The amendments will include: 1) permitting canopy style sun shades 12' x 12' or less without side walls (rather than 10' x 10' or less) ; clarifying that operating hours Monday through Thursday are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (not 6:00 p.m.); deleting the restriction from remaining on the bay beaches  after 9:00 p.m.; and clarifying that people actively engaged in sport fishing are permitted on the beach after operating hours.
