Seaside Heights Borough Council introduced on March 15th an ordinance that will permit limited brewery licensees and craft distillery licensees to operate on the Boulevard. Small business development along the Boulevard has been the focus of Mayor & Council's redevelopment planning and action.
The holder of a "limited brewery license" may brew any malt alcoholic beverage in a quantity to be expressed in the license (which is issued by the State of New Jersey, not the local government entity). The licensee is permitted to sell the product at retail to consumers on the licensed premises of the brewery for consumption on the premises, but only in connection with a tour of the brewery, or for consumption off the premises in a quantity of not more than 15.5 fluid gallons per person, and to offer samples for sampling purposes. Licensees are not permitted to sell food or operate a restaurant on the premises.
Heavy Reel Brewing Co. presented its concept plan to Seaside Heights officials seeking to open a microbrewery on the Boulevard between 650 sq ft and 3,000 sq ft. The ordinance will permit microbreweries in the retail business district, but only along the Boulevard.
